Chapter I - Denomination, Nature, Scope, Headquarters, Means and Ends

Article 1

SPORTING CLUBE DE PORTUGAL, founded on the first day of July of the year nineteen hundred and six, shall be governed by this statute and its respective regulations and applicable legislation.

Article 2

SPORTING CLUBE DE PORTUGAL is a sports club, consisting of a collective of people under private law, declared a public utility for its contribution towards sport, being prohibited from, in its activities and installations, manifestations of political parties and religious proselytism.

Article 3

1- SPORTING CLUBE DE PORTUGAL is an indivisible unit consisting of the totality of its associates that, in terms of these statutes, may congregate in Affiliates, Delegations, Supporters Clubs ('Núcleos') and Organisations, both in national and foreign territory.
2- In SPORTING CLUBE DE PORTUGAL no distinction of ancestry, sex, race, language, territory of origin, religious views, political convictions or ideologies, education, economic situation or social condition, other than the qualification of membership of respective age, shall infringe upon the awards given or contributions made by/to the club.

Article 4

1- SPORTING CLUBE DE PORTUGAL has its headquarters ('sede') in Lisbon; however other sports installations affiliated with the Club may eventually be situated in other locals.
2- In homage to the founding of the collective, the principle games field ('campo de jogos') is to be designated as "Estádio José Alvalade".

Article 5

SPORTING CLUBE DE PORTUGAL has as its purpose the practice and education of sport, in that it is promoted both in recreational and professional fields, as a cultural activity, in this context, that can contribute to the growth of sport and of the Country.

Article 6

1- With the objective of realising purposes/ends stated in any other articles, and in the acts of utilising resources in doing so, SPORTING CLUBE DE PORTUGAL, where permitted by law, in benefiting the general sporting activities of the Club and in particular football, may:
   a) Promote, relative to its teams that participate in sports competitions of a professional nature, the constitution of sports societies and their participation in such happenings;
   b) Exercise commercial activities without directly impacting the sports;
   c) Participate in commercial societies of limited responsibility, further still, regulated by special laws.
   d) Take whichever other participations, being stable ('mesmo estáveis'), and enter into whichever associations with economic ends ('fins económicos'), including joint ventures and participation in consortia;
   e) Support and participate in whichever other incentives and projects of a financial character, including game of chance ('jogos de fortuna') that have been given official concession, including the game of bingo;
   f) Create and provide foundations.

2 - Without prejudice to the competencies attributable with the statutes attributable to other bodies, including the Board ('Conselho Directivo'), the Club may take whichever of the initiatives envisaged in the preceding paragraph based upon a favourable resolution by the General Assembly ('Assembleia Geral'), with the exception of mere causes.

3 - Dependent still on the authorisation or approval of the General Assembly ('Assembleia Geral') is the estrangement ('alienação') or financial burdening ('oneração') of positions in societies, except for those with a nature of mere financial application.
