FPF awards National Junior Championship to Sporting

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), in communication n.º 176, dated the 3rd of November, following the ruling made by the Justice Council, has attributed the National Junior Championship 2008-2009 to Sporting.

Following the decision, Pedro Mil-Homens, Sporting SAD administrator, stated: “Sporting, as always, wanted to dispute a match that would decide the winner of the National Junior Championship in an environment that celebrates the great thing that is youth football. As the decision by the Justice Council that the PFF has acted upon dictates, the main reason that the game was left unfinished was because a group of fans from the rival team behaved in a way that was contrary to that environment. It was this position that Sporting always highlighted, right from the off.

The attributing of the National Junior Title has been done so following the application of the regulations which govern the Championship; and as such, should be respected. In future, Sporting would prefer that such situations are not repeated; so as to ensure that the growth of young players, and the sport as a whole, is not degraded.”
