Speaking following his side's turning over of Naval, the Sporting coach affirmed that “this is the way. The team deserves all the praise that it gets.”Paulo Sérgio, speaking about the game, stated: “There is no such thing as easy games and I was expecting a tricky game; just like every game will be. Our opponents deserve my respect, but a word has to be said for how Sporting played. We had the ball from start to finish and we were constantly looking to take the attack to the opposition. The second half was easier, because Naval tried to push up a bit and we were able to score the goals that we deserved.”
The Sporting coach further noted: “Victories always bring confidence and loses can help us grow. However, I also like to grow with wins. This is the way and today the team deserves all the praise that it gets. The lads were very concentrated, they pressed hard, they fought for possession when it was lost and they created a lot of chances to score. I really liked the collective spirit that we showed today.”
When questioned about the impending break in domestic football for an international break, the coach noted: “International breaks can be taken in two ways: if we win our next game then they are good, if we lose it then they are bad.” With the transfer window due to slam shut tomorrow (the 31st of August), Paulo Sérgio stated: “I am sure that Costinha and the President are working hard, but with us playing a game I wasn't really thinking about it.”
