Carlos Carvalhal: "There is a real feeling of togetherness"
Following a winning debut against Pescadores da Costa da Caparica, Carlos Carvalhal noted: "It was a good win and we have moved into the next round of the Portuguese cup; that was our objective. This result felt that little bit better because it was one that was achieved in an irritating situation. Moreover, the team had the mental strength to fight back".
The coach acknowledge that "there are a lot of things that could be done better", but stressed that "some changes are already visible". Carvalhal also took the opportunity to say a few words for the night’s opponents: "Pescadores should be congratulated. They were a very aggressive team that created a few problems for us. In fact, I think we were a little bit surprised by how they played. We did, however, walk away form the game the happier camp. We conceded a goal, but we were always looking to come away with the result. We just needed to score our first, then after that we put on a good show".
Carvalhal also took a moment to thank the Sporting fans in attendance: "There is a real feeling of togetherness and we are trying to turn things around. We were very happy with the support that our fans gave us tonight".
As for the impending derby clash with Benfica, on the 28th of this month, Carvalhal noted that he is feeling "calm and stable. We have a week to prepare for the game and that’s exactly what we are going to do". |
