Born in Nazaré, Esgaio began his youth career has a winger, before being moved into the full-back position where he plays today. Winning several youth championships before moving up to Sporting B, he has again moved further up the pitch and become a goal threat in his own right.
In 2013/14, he had a great season with Sporting B, scoring 16 goals in 39 matches. The following season, Cédric's injury at the beginning of the season saw him given 10 call ups to the first team, before spending six months out on loan with Académica.
Since 2012, Ricardo Esgaio has also taken part in the under-19 European Championships, under-20 World Cup and under-21 European Championships.
