Sporting's korfball team was created in 2008 after a project put together by Isabel Teixeira was approved in colaboration with the Portuguese Korfball Association, with the goal of promoting the sport with the help of one of the country's big names. Korfball has actually existed in Portugal since 1985, but its growth has slowed, despite some notable internaitonal results.
Korfball is the only sport in the world in which both girls and boys play on an equal footing and play the same role. It is a collective sport that reflects modern society, with players needing to play as part of a team if they are to have any hope of winning.
Sporting's korfball department is comprised of two senior teams and also supports a school for children aged 10 to 17, divided into under-13/under-16/under-17.
