Wealth of Alvalade faces feature in under-21 Euro 2017 qualifier win

The national under-21 team beat Norway 3-1 in a Euro 2017 qualifier this week, with Alvalade's Rúben Semedo finding the back of the net with a 59th minute header.

Also in action were Sporting CP's Iuri Medeiros (on loan to Boavista), Daniel Podence and Carlos Mané (on loan to Stuttgart), while Domingos Duarte (on loan to Belenenses) and Tobias Figueiredo (on loan to Nacional) were introduced off the bench.

Rúben Semedo, Francisco Geraldes and Daniel Podence joined by several players currently on loan

The national under-21 team will face Norway (24th of March at 18h15, in Estádio António Coimbra da Mota, Estoril) and Germany (28th of May at 18h00, in Stuttgart) in preparation for the 2017 European Championships. 

A total of seven Sporting players feature (four who are currently on loan): Rúben Semedo, Francisco Geraldes, Daniel Podence, Carlos Mané (VFB Stuttgart, Tobias Figueiredo (CD Nacional), Iuri Medeiros (Boavista FC) and Domingos Duarte (CF Os Belenenses).

Rúben Semedo features in Rui Jorge's under-21 Portugal squad for the coming friendlies with the Czech Republic (11th of November at 18h15) and the Netherlands (15th of November at 18h30).

Also included in the squad are fellow Sporting players Domingos Duarte, Tobias Figueiredo, Francisco Geraldes, Daniel Podence, Carlos Mané and Iuri Medeiros.

Sporting SAD statement on the loan of Oriol Rosell and Domingos Duarte

Sporting Clube de Portugal – Futebol, SAD has reached an agreement with “Os Belenenses” – Sociedade Desportiva de Futebol, SAD for the loan of the players Oriol Rosell and Domingos Duarte for the 2016/17 season, with no option for a permanent transfer.

Skipeer Domingos Duarte on Sporting B's loss to Desp. Aves

Sporting B conceded a heavy defeat on Ledman LigaPro matchday 43 this Saturday, in a match which saw the team from Alvalade reduced to nine men.

Domingos Duarte was on hand to reflect at the final whistle, but the Sporting youngster preferred to avoid comment on the afternoon's refereeing: “The first goal was a lapse in concentration from us, which can happen sometimes.We started well and we had a good first-half, but after the break we let a second goal in and it was impossible to come back with two players being sent off. It isn't up to us to speak about referees."

Domingos Duarte on Sporting B's 3-1 loss to Sp. Covilhã

"We started badly. We let in a goal and 10 minutes later we let in another one. In the second-half we showed we have a chance to do better in future", said Domingos Duarte after his side's 3-1 loss to Sp. Covilhã this Sunday, finishing: "Our goal lifted us a bit and in the second-half we attacked, but we just couldn't find a second or third goal. We have been working on defending set-pieces, but it didn't go well for us today. It was individual mistakes, but we will get better."

Domingos Duarte has been named as the Professional Football Players Syndicate Young Player of the Month for the months of August and September.

The Alvalade defender tallied a total of 12.94% of the vote, just 1% ahead of fellow Sporting player Pedro Silva (11,65%).

Sporting Clube de Portugal, Futebol SAD has reached an agreement with the athlete Domingos Duarte for the renewal of his contract until 2022, with a buy-out clause of €45,000,000.00.

Sporting SAD wishes Domingos Duarte the best of professional and personal success.

Speaking after penning the deal, the defender, who arrived at Alvalade, proved ecstatic with the opportunity to represent his much-loved Sporting.

“I am really happy. I have always been a fan and Member of this club. You can expect dedication and work from me to earn the confidence put in me”, said Domingos Duarte, before reflecting on his time with the captain’s armband in place of the injured Riquicho: “We are all in contact with Riquicho and he is passing on a lot of his experience to us. It is a tough period for him, but we are here to help. Both me and Sambinha have taken on the role of captain and everything is going well.”

In parallel, the Alvalade youngster commented on his career so far: “Like any player at Sporting I want to get into the senior team as quickly as possible and to get back into the national team.”
