"The sending off was the key moment"

Luís Martins happy with his side's performance, despite missing out to FC Porto B

Luís Martins took a moment to speak with the press after Sunday's loss to FC Porto B, reflecting on what he sees as a final result influenced by some dubious refereeing.

"It was a well-disputed match between two good teams, with a third team that I didn't think were in their best form. We could have done better, considering the chances we had. We didn't do very well in defence and we don't usually let in so many goals, even when we are down to 10 men. The sending off was the key moment for FC Porto B, but I give them credit for the result and applaud my players for keeping their cool when things started going against us", said Martins.

Also speaking at the final whistle was the Sporting CP B striker Leonardo Ruiz, who actually used to play for FC Porto B: "It was a hard game, the kind that every player loves to be involved in. We aren't happy with the result, but we are happy because we did out best. I was very welcome at FC Porto, but of course we are rivals on the pitch now."

Sporting CP B miss out after Dala strikes twice and Barbosa sees straight red

Sporting CP B slipped to a battling defeat in the Dr. Jorge Sampaio Municipal Stadium this weekend against FC Porto B (3-2). Gelson Dala struck twice for the team from Alvalade, on an afternoon which saw Rafael Barbosa sent off.

The match got off to a tough start for Luís Martins' team, when FC Porto B took the lead after one minute when Galeno opened up play for Kayembe to finish. With an early goal the hosts continued in the early stages, before Sporting CP B found their footing after ten minutes on the ropes. Gauld, Gelson Dala and Rafael Barbosa all tried their luck, but the first real opportunity came though Matheus Pereira, denied by Raul Gudiño in the FC Porto B goal. With Sporting CP B in control, Gelson Dala netted the equaliser on 24 minutes, with a superb bit of dribbling around the keeper and a simple finish.

The deadlock didn't last, as FC Porto B struck just three minutes later when Rui Moreira unleashed a brilliant shot past Pedro Silva. Both sides continued to push the pace in a tantalising game to watch and the drama was taken up another notch when Sporting CP levelled four minutes after the half-hour mark with Dala's second of the afternoon.

Both teams came out swinging in the second-half and piled forward, before a straight red card for Rafael Barbosa in the 67th minute gave FC Porto B the edge. The hosts secured the result though André Pereira, after another darting run by Galeno down the flank.

Mauro Riquicho and João de Deus look to the positives of Saturday's encounter with FC Porto B

Mauro Riquicho was understandably frustrated with his side's loss to FC Porto B this weekend, but the Sporting B CP skipper was also happy with how his side approached the encounter.

"We did everything we could to come away with the result and we can be proud of that. The game didn't get off to a good start for us, but we fought hard to change it. Now all we can do it focus on our next match", said Riquicho, whose words were largely reflected by coach João de Deus' flash interview at the final whistle. "They asked me to take it easy when speaking with the press so that I wouldn't do any damage to the club, so all I want to do is thank the fans and my players, who did the best they could with 10 men", finished the Sporting CP B coach.

Ronaldo goal not enough to trigger a comeback against FC Porto B and some debatable refereeing

Sporting CP B lost 2-1 to FC Porto B this Saturday, in a match that was marred by some highly debatable refereeing decisions that included a straight red card for Matheus Pereira.

Expectations are always high when two off the Ledman LigaPro big hitters meet, but the encounter actually got off to a slow start. FC Porto B looked to take much of the early initiative, while João de Deus' side looked happy to sit back and take advantage of any slip ups. Chances were few and far between, so it was no surprise that the first goal of the afternoon had to wait until four minutes before half-time, when Areias finished following a skillful move by Fede Varela through the middle.

Despite the remarkably sparse number of opportunities, FC Porto B arguably deserved their lead, having taken most of the initiative. The change proved to be exactly what Sporting CP B needed and João de Deus' charges looked a lot more offensive, before a puzzling direct red card shown to Matheus Pereira for an alleged elbow on Inácio gave the visitor's a huge advantage.

Despite the setback, Sporting CP B responded superbly and with Ronaldo introduced in place of Leonardo Ruiz, the hosts took the fight to FC Porto B. However, the visitors managed to double their lead, completely against the run of play, when Ismael Díaz saw an attempted cross sneak in. Losing by two, Sporting CP B continued to battle and with fifteen minutes left on the clock Suahele headed in from an excellent pass from Pedro Delgado.

Sensing a comeback, Sporting CP B threw everything forward and Ronaldo Tavares broke into the FC Porto B area, only to be brought down by a foul that the referee waved away.

Mauro Riquicho wants the three points from FC Porto B this weekend

Mauro Riquicho is back in action after a long spell sidelined with a serious leg injury. Looking ahead to the weekend's Ledman LigaPro action against FC Porto B, Riquicho affirmed: "We are ready, like we always are. They are a good side and they won the title last year, but we won't make it easy for them."

Sporting CP B coach João de Deus on the weekend's Ledman LigaPro action

After missing out against V. Guimarães B, coach João de Deus is expecting his side to turn in a good result this weekend against FC Porto B.

"We are ready for the match. We have made good use of a full week of training to fine tune a few things which we not so good against Guimarães, so hopefully tomorrow we will get a positive result", said the Sporting CP B coach, before analysing the weekend's opposition: "We aren't hiding from the quality that our opponent has, just like all the B teams in this league have. FC Porto B have a set way of playing that everyone knows about and that they have been using for a few years now. They like having possession and are strong going through the middle, but we will try and make use of our strengths."

João de Deus on his side's loss to FC Porto B

Speaking at the final whistle on Monday night, João de Deus accepted that his side's 4-0 defeat was largely deserved, after a forgettable 90 minutes.

"The result was fair, because FC Porto B were the better side. We were punished for what we did here today. We let in early goals with some individual slips. We worked on preparing for this game, but we couldn't stop our opponent on the day", said the Sporting B coach.

Sporting B skipper Sambinha also commented on the influence of defensive errors on the final result: "We made a lot of mistakes and we will need to improve. Now we will focus on the coming match against Guimarães B."

Sporting B slip to defeat on II Liga matchday 21

Sporting B slipped to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of FC Porto B this Monday night, on II Liga match day 21.

The first opportunity of the game came after five minutes, when André Soares controlled well from a cross by Rafa Soares to open the scoring. A largely chanceless spell followed, before FC Porto B doubled their lead in the 21st minute through André Silva. Sporting B fought hard to get back into the encounter before te break and a rocket off a shot from Francisco Geraldes was only denied by a great save from João Costa, before Labyad also came close with a free-kick.

The restart saw FC Porto B effectively sentence Sporting B to defeat, when Ismael Díaz made it three-nil following a corner. Drained and trailing by three, João de Deus' side were largely powerless to react for the rest of the encounter and let in a fourth six minutes after the hour mark through Rafa Soares.

The result sees Sporting B drop to 4th in II Liga, with 35 points.
