Seocnd Alvalade athlete wins gold in Amsterdam

Patrícia Mamona won the gold medal in the triple jump competition at the European Championships this weekend, being held in the Dutch city of Amsterdam.

Following on from Sara Moreira's half marathon win, Mamona set a new national record on her final attempt (14.58m) to top the podium.

Sara Moreira and Jéssica Augusto win gold and bronze in Amsterdam

The Sporting athlete Sara Moreira topped the European Championships half marathon podium in Amsterdam this weekend, with a time 1:10.19.

The European champion was also accompanied in the medal positions by fellow Sporting athlete Jéssica Augusto, who finished in third with a time 36 seconds slower than Moreira.

Alvalade Canoeist wins K1 200m and K2 500m competitions

Francisca Laia is once again the World University Games champion in K1 200m and K2 500m.

Already qualified for Eio 2016, Laia was in fine form in the competition hosted in Montemor-o-Velho this week, securing two gold medals and a silver.

Anri Egutidze dominates <81kg European Open competition

Anri Egutidze continued his dominating form this weekend, this time with a gold medal in the 81kg event at the Madrid European Open.

The Alvalade judoka beat the Belgium Matthias Casse in the final by ippon, after having overcome the Canadian Etienne Briand, the Frenchman Dimitri Tavares and the Russian Ivan Nifontov.

Collectively Portugal finished in 5th.

Alvalade canoe star wins K2 1,000m event with João Ribeiro

Emanuel Silva claimed yet another gold medal this weekend, this time in the Montemor-o-Velho stage of the World Cup.

It was an extremely well contested K2 1,000m final, but Emanuel Silva and João Ribeiro managed to pull ahead by a couple of inches to win the gold.

Anri Egutidze dominates <81kg category

Anri Egutidze claimed the gold medal at the Junior European Judo Cup in Austria this weekend, after beating the Japanese competitor Toshimasa Ogata in the final.

The Alvalade judoka won all of his fights in the <81kg.

Katarina Larsson wins Olympic distance gold

Sporting athlete adds to her sprint distance win earlier in the week

Katarina Larsson is in unstoppable form in the European Triathlon Championships in Lisbon, this time adding the olympic distance gold to her sprint win earlier in the week.

The Alvalade athlete finished the three segments in 2 hours, 11 minutes and seven seconds, which was an amazing 39 seconds ahead of the second-placed British competitor, Victoria Baker.

Patrícia Mamona pulled off a largely expected win in the ECC Track and Field Senior triple jump competition this Saturday, finishing a good margin ahead of the rest of the pack.

After a day of action and with 11 events competed, Sporting leads the rankings with 79 points.

Alvalade athlete claims gold on home soil

Katarina Larsson was crowded the new European sprint triathlon champion (30 to 34 years old) this week with an inspiring performance in Lisbon.

Clocking a time of 1h07m48s, Larsson crossed the line after a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.

 

Nuno Paiva wins European gold

Alvalade coach and athlete beats home favourite in the final

Nuno Paiva rounded off a fantastic week for Sporting's athletes this Sunday, winning the over-35 event at the International Karate Union's European Championships, being held in the Romanian city of Timisora. Paiva actually beat the home favourite Kornya Csaba in the decisive encounter to claim gold.

Speaking with the Sporting Journal after the event, Paiva said he "felt good during the whole fight" and is looking forward to the World Championships in Ireland next year.
