Alvalade athletes visit pediatric unit

The Sporting Foundation have Science4You teamed up to take a group of athletes to Lisbon's D. Estefânia Pediatric Hospital. The Alvalade heroes were of course happy to oblige, handing out presents and mixing with their fans.

Explaining how the visit came about, Sporting Foundation head Celina Cepa proved happy with the results: "This was our first activity in the build up to Christmas. We put a few months of planning into this and teamed up with Science4You and the D. Estefânia Hospital was happy to have us. We brought smiles to the kids' faces and it was a really emotional experience for everyone."

Science4You representative João Ferreira was also pleased to help and is eager to get the company involved more often: "We were invited by the Sporting Foundation and we took on the challenge of helping where we could. It was a great experience and we want to repeat it."

Sporting athletes come up short of Rio 2016 finals

Marta Onofre and Maria Leonor Tavares were unable to clear 4.45m and 4.30m respectively in the Rio 2016 pole vault competition.

After breezing over 4.15m and 4.30m national record holder Marta Onofre was uanble to clear 4.45m in her three attempts, finishings 23rd overall.

Maria Leonor Tavares stopped at 4.30m, finishing in 28th place overall.

Alvalade pole vault star given green line for again in Portland

Marta Onofre was issued an invitation by the International Association of Athletics Federations to take part in the World Indoor Championships next week, being hosted in Portland.

Last week the Alvalade athlete cleared 4.51m in the pole vault even in the National Club Indoor Championships to secure a place in Rio 2016.

Alvalade pole vault star reaches Olympic standard

Marta Onofre confirmed has her place in Rio de Janeiro later this year with a height of 4.51m in the pole vault competition at the National Indoor Club Championship. The height also set a new national record.

Onofre finished head and shoulders above the rest of the field, contributing to a superb team display that saw Sporting finish 19 points ahead of Benfica.

Alvalade athlete claims podium spot with height of 4.30m

Marta Onofre finished in 3rd in the Gent Meeting this weekend, with a height of 4.30m in the pole vault event. The Alvalade athlete did also attempt to break the national record set by Maria Leonor Tavares (4.45m), which would also have seen here qualify for the Olympics.

Alvalade athlete clears 4.45 in Pombal to secure Euro spot

Marta Onofre was in brilliant form this weekend at the National Indoor Championships in Pombal, setting a new pole vault record with a height of 4.45m.

Onofre also secured a place at the European Indoor Championships with the new record and is just 5cm shy of Olympic qualification.
