Sporting CP B miss out to Varzim and continue to search for a long awaited three points

Sporting CP B slipped to defeat this Wednesday, with a lack of a more clinical touch in front of goal and the odd individual error allowing Ledman LigaPro highflighers Varzim come away with the three points.

Francisco Geraldes and André Geraldes were introduced to the starting line-up in an effort to boost João de Deus' side to a win that is proving hard to come by, while Leonardo Ruiz was also given a place for the opening whistle. It was actually the Colombian forward who created the first chance on goal, latching on to a cross with a header only to be denied by a superb save from Paulo Vítor.

Down the other end of the park, Varzim were proving more deadly and Malele netted following a set piece after a defensive mix up.

Paulo Victor made another couple of good stops before the break, first after a header from Gelson Dala and then from a shot by Kiki.

The second-half continued with Sporting CP looking for a goal and a much deserved strike finally came from Leonardo Ruiz after he linked up with Francisco Geraldes and Gelson Dala.

However, the deadlock only lasted five minutes, when Rui Costa punished a mistake from Abdu Conté inside the 18-yard box to steal the points for the visitors.

Sporting CP B currently sit just one position off the bottom off the table, with a total of five points.

João de Deus frustrated with what is now a run of 10 games without a win

João de Deus was understandably frustrated after seeing his side again miss out on the three point this weekend, despite taking the lead early on.

"The first-half was pretty much what we planned and we had chances to put the game to bed. In the second-half, although we dominated, we were unable to guarantee the three points", said the Sporting CP B coach, going on to add his analysis on the featuring of four under-19 players (Ivanildo Fernandes, Bubacar Djaló, Jovane Cabral and Bruno Paz): "We have to use the best we have, so I brought in some youth players. I am sure they will have more opportunities going forward."

Who also made an appearance was Merih Demiral, making his debut in a Sporting shirt. "He is a good player and you can see that from how he has been playing for Turkey. He already knows how we play and he will contribute to us climbing up the table", finished João de Deus.

Guima on the weekend's draw with Famalicão

In 19th place with 27 points, Sporting CP B are currently sitting in the Ledman LigaPro relegation zone. It has been a bad run of results, but Sporting CP B's Guima is not about to throw in the towel just yet.

"We have to carry on working. Sporting CP shouldn't be where we are now, we should be at the top. Right now we are focused on getting out of the relegation zone and then climbing the table as much as possible", affirmed the Sporting CP B midfielder, continuing with his analysis of the weekend's action against Famalicão: "It was a good, competitive game. We were on top of them and we could have scored a second goal."

Gelson Dala puts Sporting CP B ahead after five minutes, but Famalicão rally in the second-half

Sporting CP B were again unable to turn in the three points this weekend, this time being held to a draw by the visiting Famalicão.

João de Deus brought in four under-19 stars for the game (Abdu Conté, Bruno Paz, Jovane Cabral and Bubacar Djaló), in addition to new faces Gelson Dala and Merih Demiral.

Gelson put Sporting CP B ahead after just five minutes with a calm finish. Bilel and Pedro Delgado were also looking dangerous in attack, while down the other end Jug was let off the hook by some poor finishing by João Mendes after the Sporting CP B keeper failed to deal with a cross.

No other real chances materialised before half-time, with the tale of the rest of the action being the sending off of Mera for a hard foul on Jovane Cabral.

Although down a man, Famalicão came out strong in the second-half and managed to equalise through Diogo Cunha (55').

Sporting CP B continue in the lower half of Ledman LigaPro, having not turned in a win for 10 consecutive matches.

João de Deus' side dominate but were unable to break the deadlock

Sporting CP B were unable to find their winning form this week, this time being held to a draw by Sp. Covilhã. João de Deus' side actually led for most of the afternoon through Gelson Dala's debut strike for the club after a pass from Pedro Delgado.

Despite Sporting CP B's dominance, play was bogged down for the most part. However, Covilhã were limited to just a single opportunity in the first-half, when Zarabi fired off target from close range (38'). Ary Papel and Gelson Dala were the instigators of most of Sporting CP B's efforts going forward and Ary himself came close to scoring with a shot from range that was turned away by the visiting keeper.

Sporting CP B continued to dominate after the break, playing some quality football and holding down the midfield while blitzing down the flanks. Gelson Dala came close to netting his second, but it was the hosts who struck, after Abdu Conté brought down Harramiz for a penalty converted on by Erivelto.
