Statement regarding Adrien Silva

By Sporting SAD
29 Aug, 2016

Sporting Clube de Portugal - Futebol, SAD

In light of news articles published throughout the day in relation to the player Adrien Silva, Sporting SAD notes the following:

1 – The player renewed his contract in February 2016 in a deal involving significant sums of money, making it absolutely clear that the extension to his contract would mean that Adrien Silva would say at the Club until the end of his career. This was expressly stated by the president of Sporting CP, the player's father and representatives before agreeing the contract.

2 – Additionally, Adrien Silva gave an interview on the 23rd of May in which he clearly said that he would not leave Sporting without winning the league.

3 – Never during recent months has anything been said to to the president or has any proposal been made for the transfer of Adrien Silva and the president has not met with the player's father or representatives for that purpose. In this light, if somebody is tricking the player then it is his representatives and not Sporting CP.

4 – Adrien Silva is a contracted professional player who knows how to respect the club as a person and an athlete. All Sporting fans see him as an example to follow.

5 – Sporting CP and its president will always defend the interests of the club and will also defend the club's assets.

6 – It is understandable at this stage that agents or representatives of athletes are a destabilising influence on players. This however will not affect how the club or its fans treats players.

Sporting SAD statement on William Carvalho

Sporting SAD hereby expresses its indignation for the fact that the football player William Carvalho returned from the national under-21 team with a stress fracture to his tibia, without this fact having been communicated by the team’s clinical department or to any of Sporting Clube de Portugal’s clinical directors.

It was only yesterday, on returning to training ,that the injury to William Carvalho was discovered by Sporting Clube de Portugal’s medical department, at which time the Portuguese Football Federation curiously transmitted clinical reports for the seven players who took part in the under-21 European Championships.

The clinical update for the player William Carvalho states that the player did not show any signs of a physical problem. The player denies this and states that the clinical department was aware of the issue.

As a result, William Carvalho is expected to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks

Statement from Sporting Clube de Portugal's Director of Communications

Godinho Lopes insinuates that Bruno de Carvalho thinks that Sporting Clube de Portugal began when he arrived. What Godinho Lopes in fact wants to do is draw attention away from the fact that Sporting was about to close when he left.

Godinho Lopes says that Bruno de Carvalho is not uniting all Sporting fans. Surely he is not referring to the 97.23% of Club Members who voted in favour of the Club’s budget in the General Assembly on the 29th of June. When speaking about unity, Godinho Lopes is surely speaking about the Club Members who will travel to Switzerland to testify against our Club, or those who use the media as a tool for attacking Sporting and its governing bodies.

Godinho Lopes speaks about “management based on fear” when he should be speaking about “fearless management”. Fearless in taking on a club which Godinho Lopes left on the verge of bankruptcy, fearless in taking on a club which had finished in its worst position ever in the league and a management which now has Sporting fighting for titles, a management which isn’t scared of the truth and which will take on all who are against the Club.
