The defender speaks after the win in the Algarve

Following Sporting Clube de Portugal's 4-1 victory over Nottingham Forest, Eduardo Quaresma spoke in the mixed zone about the preseason friendly.

"The team are confident and doing well. We've focused a lot on what we had to do, the new players took advantage of the opportunities they had and listened well to the coach. We older players who have been here for some time, managed to show how the coach wants to play. We take advantage of every game to evolve as a team. A victory is always good, but we focused on what we had to do to win," he told the media.

"I'm prepared for whatever the manager and Sporting CP ask of me. I've shown that I have the ability to be a starter or to come on as a substitute, so it's up to the coach. I don't know if I'll be captain or even if I'll be a starter, but the most important thing is to show that I'm capable when I'm given minutes."

Quaresma says that wearing the captain's armband this preseason has been "a source of pride."

"It's an added responsibility, especially with captains I've had, like Seba [Coates] and Morten [Hjulmand]. They taught me a lot and I hope to carry on their good work," he emphasised.

"This is the same Sporting CP as last year, with the same way of playing and the same hunger to win. The players are very united and that makes the group stronger."

Finally, the 24-year-old player spoke about his desire to represent Portugal at international level.

"Everyone dreams of playing for the national team. I'm going to work towards that and wait for the call-up. If I'm not called up now, I hope to be in the future."
