Alvalade athletes round off a dream 18 months with European silverware

Four wins from four left Sporting CP just a draw away from winning the Super European Goalball League, with only Old Power capable of spoiling the party. However, the Finnish outfit were unable to claim the victory in their encounter and the trophy is already on its way to Alvalade.

An amazing result, just 18 months after Sporting CP made its first move into the world of Goalball.

Coordinator of Sporting CP's Paralympic Department, Márcia Ferreira reflected on the win: "This is the highest point that Portuguese Goalball has ever been at. We came here full of ambition and we are going back home with the top European trophy. We promised this trophy to the president, because he has backed us more than anybody else."

Coach Paulo Fernandes was understandably overjoyed with the silverware, affirming: "This is a fantastic win against the best teams in the world."
