Sporting claims bronze in Golden League

Alvalade judo stars earn podium spot in Vienna

Sporting won a bronze medal in the Judo Golden League this weekend, being hosted in the Austrian capital of Vienna. Despite what was a historic performance in Europe's premier judo competition, Sporting will be feeling a bit hard done by after tough semi-final.

In the encounter deciding the bronze, Pedro Soares' outfit claimed the win in just three bouts, with Sergiu Oleinic beating Stefan Kudera in the <66kg category, Rustam Orujov beating Christopher Wagner in the <73kg competition and Anri Egutidze beating Marcel Ott in the <81kg competition.

Sporting missed out by the narrowest of margins in the semi-finals, missing out 3-2 to Fighter Tbilisi after winning the first two bouts.

Vasco Revés in Super Copa de España

Alvalade judoka to get underway against Alejandro De Prado

Vasco Revés has been called up by the Super Copa de España International Cadets Tournament, taking place in Pamplona.

The Alvalade judoka will take part in the <55kg category and will begin against Alejandro De Prado, with a bout against Unai Ariceta awaiting the winner.

Alvalade judoka in <66kg action in Jeju

Sergiu Oleinic claimed an admirable 7th place in the <66kg at the Jejo Judo Grand Prix this week, after being stopped by the Israeli athlete Golan Pollack.

The Alvalade judoka opened with two wins against the Georgian Vazha Margvelashvili and the South Korean Jong Woong Byeon, before missing out to world number 4, Mikhail Pulyaev, and Golan Pollack.

A total of 434 athletes from 71 countries took part in the event. Fellow Sporting athlete Joana Ramos was also in action, being eliminated in the preliminary round.

Sergiu Oleinic 7th in Abu Dhabi

Alvalade judoka with solid performance in Grand Slam

Sergiu Oleinic continued with his fine form so far this year, this time with a 7th place finish in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in the <66kg category.

The Alvalade judoka opened with a win against Munkhbayar Nergui, followed by a victory over Dzmitry Shershan (ranked 6th in the world). However, Oleinic slipped up in his final encounter of the qualification round, missing out to Sebastian Seidl.

Defeat to the Russian Kamal Khan-Magomedov followed to see Oleinic finish 7th overall, but there were plenty of positives to take away from the weekend's performance.

Meanwhile Joana Ramos, 12th in the world rankings, lost here first encounter of the afternoon, against Karolina Pienkowska.

Two Judokas in European Open

Doina Babcenco and Elsa Mendes in action in Odivelas

Doina Babcenco, in the <57kg category, and Elsa Mendes, in the >78kg category, will both feature for Portugal in the Lisbon European Judo Open.

The event will take place in the Odivelas Multiuse Arena on the 10th of October.

Anri stars in Oberwart

Alvalade Judoka in European action

Anri Egutidze took part in the Junior European Judo Championships this weekend, in the Austrian city of Oberwart.

The Alvalade judoka opened with a win over the Croatian Lovro Kovac, before missing out the Moldovan Nicon Zaborosciuc due to a penalty.

Joana and Sergiu called up

Alvalade judokas called up for Tyumen Grand Prix

Joana Ramos and Sergiu Oleinic have both been called up by the Portuguese Judo Federation for the Tyumen Grand Prix, being held next week in Russia.

Joana Ramos is currently ranked 15th in the world in the <52kg category, while Sergiu Oleinic is 28th in the <66kg group.
