Alvalade judoka wins gold in Madrid

Anri Egutidze dominates <81kg European Open competition

Anri Egutidze continued his dominating form this weekend, this time with a gold medal in the 81kg event at the Madrid European Open.

The Alvalade judoka beat the Belgium Matthias Casse in the final by ippon, after having overcome the Canadian Etienne Briand, the Frenchman Dimitri Tavares and the Russian Ivan Nifontov.

Collectively Portugal finished in 5th.

With the close of the Olympic qualification period this Tuesday, the official lists of athletes with places in the Rio Olympic Games have now been published.

Sporting CP athletes Joana Ramos, Taciana Lima, Jorge Fonseca and Sergiu Oleinic will all feature.

Anri Egutidze dominates <81kg category

Anri Egutidze claimed the gold medal at the Junior European Judo Cup in Austria this weekend, after beating the Japanese competitor Toshimasa Ogata in the final.

The Alvalade judoka won all of his fights in the <81kg.

Sergiu Oleinic finishes European Championships in 7th

Alvalade judoka with solid showing in Russia

Sergiu Oleinic claimed an admirable 7th place finish in the European Judo Championships -66kg competition this week, being held in the Russian city of Kazan.

The Alvalade judoka opened with a tough win against Marko Vukicevic, before missing out to Adrian Gomboc.

Meanwhile Joana Ramos reach the qualification semi-finals, before being stopped by Roni Schwartz.

Doina Babcenco wins gold in Lisbon Open

Alvalade judokas in a total of four finals

Doina Babcenco topped the podium in the <63kg competition at the Lisbon Open this weekend. Also in action in the senior competitions were João Santos (winning silver in the <60kg competition) and Luís Carmo (also winning silver, in the <73kg competition).

Meanwhile in the cadets competition, Vasco Revés secured the gold medal in the <55kg group.

Alvalade judoka claims medal in European Cup encounter

Anri Egutidze earned bronze in the Lignano European Judo Cup this weekend, fighting in the <81kg weight group.

After getting the better of Alberto Ciardo and Roland Kanyasi, the Alvalade judoka faced Lorenzo Rigano in the semi-finals.

In the decisive bout, Anri missed out to the Serbian Nemanja Majdov, however me gathered his thoughts and recovered to beat Giovani Ferreira and win the bronze..

Meanwhile Maria Siderot missed out against Michela Fiorini, while Miguel Alves was stopped by Riccardo Zema.

David Reis was also in action, in the <66kg category, but was unable to get the better of Joshua O’Connor.

Alvalade judoka just short of medal places

Joana Ramos finished her Samsun Grand Prix campaign with a 5th place finish this week, after missing out against the Israeli Gili Cohen in the bronze medal bout.

The Sporting athlete started with a win over Roni Schwartz, before beating Distria Krasniqi. Ramos then missed out to Gulbadam Babamuratova in the semi-finals, before finally being eliminated by Gili Cohen.

Earlier in the day Sergiu Oleinic was eliminated in the qualifiers, while Jorge Fonseca will be in action on Sunday.

Alvalade judoka earns Sporting's second medal after Taciana's silver

Jorge Fonseca earned a podium spot in the <100kg competition in the Tbilisi Grand Prix this weekend, after Taciana Lima had won silver in the <48kg competition and Sergiu Oleinic finished 7th in the <66kg grouping.

The Alvalade judoka, who is currently 20th in the world, opened with a win against the Ukrainian Dmytro Luchyn, before beating the Hungarian Miklos Cirjenics.

The Portuguese athlete then slipped up against the Georgian Beka Gviniashvili, before recovering to beat the Brit Benjamin Fletcher and the Italian Domenico Di Guida.

Junior European Judo Cup held on Portuguese soil over the weekend

Anri Egutidze closed Sporting's Junior European Judo Cup with a silver medal this Sunday, in the <81kg category.

Anri opened Pool C with a win against Brais Pereira Amorin, before getting the better of Brandon Tegelaar and Christian Parlati.

In the semi-finals, Anri beat Salvatore D’Arco to secure a place in the final, only to be stopped after 1:54 and come away with silver.

Maria Siderot wins bronze

Junior European Judo Cup, taking place in Coimbra over the weekend

The Alvalade judoka Maria Siderot rounded off a brilliant performance in the Junior European Judo Cup this Saturday, competing in the <48kg event.

Maria started with a win in Pool C against the Spaniard Rocio Garcia Torres, before missing out to here compatriot Patrícia Matias. However Maria recovered to bear the Canadian Laurence Thiffault, followed by victory against the Brit Amber Gersjes and Catarina Costa.

In the <57kg event, Wilsa Gomes, in action for Cape Verde, beat Sonia Montero Gonzalez, before missing out to Ana Neves.

In the male competition, Vasco Reves (<55kg) was stopped in his first encounter by the Italian, Liborio Basirico.

Miguel Alves (<73kg) finished in 9th after beating the Brit Adam Bolwell and the Dutchman Jasper Van der Oetelaar, before falling to Sinanovic and eventually Alex Marineau. In the same weight group, Miguel Guerreiro missed out in the qualification round against Christoffer Macias.
