Alvalade Canoe star continues run of brilliant form

The Portuguese pairing of Francisca Laia (Sporting CP) and Teresa Portela (Benfica) claimed the K2 200m gold medal in the third stage of this year's Canoe World Cup this week, taking place in Belgrade.

Portela and Laia finished in a time of 38.208s, beating the Australian duo of Brigden-Jones and Jaime Roberts by 44 hundredths of a second.

Alvalade Canoeist wins K1 200m and K2 500m competitions

Francisca Laia is once again the World University Games champion in K1 200m and K2 500m.

Already qualified for Eio 2016, Laia was in fine form in the competition hosted in Montemor-o-Velho this week, securing two gold medals and a silver.

Alvalade canoe star wins K2 1,000m event with João Ribeiro

Emanuel Silva claimed yet another gold medal this weekend, this time in the Montemor-o-Velho stage of the World Cup.

It was an extremely well contested K2 1,000m final, but Emanuel Silva and João Ribeiro managed to pull ahead by a couple of inches to win the gold.

Alvalade canoe star wins medla in K2 1,000m

Another fantastic day for Sporting's canoeing department, this time with Emanuel Silva winning a bronze medal with João Ribeiro in the K2 1,000 at the Duisburg World Cup.

The pair finished in third with a time of 3m09s060, behind Vitaliy Bialko and Raman Piatrushenka (3m08s902) and Marko Tomicevic and Milenko Zoric (3m08s986).

Alvalade canoe star finishes fourth in Germany

Francisca Laia has booked her place in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where she will feature in the K1 200 canoe event after a superb showing in Germany this week.

The 21-year old, who is also studying medicine, would have needed to have finished in the top two, however the 1st and 3rd place finish by the already qualifies Germany and Slovakian athletes meant that Laia's 4th place was enough.
