Sviatlana Kudzelich joins Sporting athletics

Belarusian specialist in 3,000m steeplechase

Already in training in the Algarve for more than a month, the latest addition to Sporting's athletics team, the Belarusian Sviatlana Kudzelich is a specialist in the 3,000m steeplechase and has been brought in to strengthen Alvalade's hopes in the European Champions Club Cup.

“I want to win my events in the European Champions Club Cup to help Sporting and to earn a place at the Olympic Games", affirmed Kudzelich in an exclusive interview with Sporting TV.

Portuguese Athletics Federation holds camp over Christmas period

Nine Sporting athletes have been called up by the Portuguese national team for a training camp, taking place from the 26th to the 31st of December in the Vila Real de Santo António Sports Complex.

Carla Tavares, David Lima, Francis Obikwelu and Olímpia Barbosa are included in the sprint and hurdles group, while Dário Manso, Edujosé Lima, Irina Rodrigues, Sílvia Cruz and Vânia Silva are in the hammer/shot putt/javelin group.

Alvalade under-23 stars in Euro Cross Country action

European Cross Country Championships being held in Hyères

Diana Almeida Finished the European Cross Country Championships Under-23 event in 47th place this weekend, with a time of 22:13.

The Alvalade athlete was at the back of the pack for most of the race, before climbing to places in the second half. Meanwhile Catarina Gonçalves finished in 49th with a time of 23:33.

In the Under-23 male event, João Valente finished 56th with a time of 25:36, while Fernando Serrão was forced out of the competition halfway through.

Alvalade athlete claims award after New York Marathon showing

Sara Moreira once again scooped the European Athletics Association's Athlete of the Month award in November, after finishing 4th in the New York Marathon with her second best ever time over the distance.

Also named were Fionnuala McCormack, Diana Martín, Sifan Hassan and Gemma Steel.

Sporting athlete finishes 4th with time of 2:25.53

Sara Moreira put in a fantastic performance in the New York marathon this weekend, finishing 4th overall with her second best ever time (2:25.53).

The Alvalade athlete was the best non-African competitor, with her final time shaving 6 seconds off her 2014 effort that claimed the bronze medal. Kenyan Mary Keitany was the eventual winner, with a time of 2:24.25.

David Lima wins in Great Britain

Alvalade sprinter claims gold double

David Lima won both the 100m and 200m events at the Active Newham Open Series in Newham this week.

The Alvalade sprinter set a new personal best in the 100m semi-finals with a time of 10.38s, before claiming gold in the final with a time of 10.45s.

In the 200m event, Lima won with his second best ever time of 20.83s.
