President Bruno de Carvalho on Sporting's ECC gold

The Sporting president, Bruno de Carvalho, spoke with Sporting TV this Sunday evening after watching Alvalade's ladies win the European Champions Club Track and Field Senior Cup this weekend in Turkey, sixteen year's after Sporting's male athletics team managed the same feat.

"This involved a lot of teamwork. Our objective is to win European titles and that wasn't an easy thing to achieve when we first arrived at Sporting. This is down to a lot of hard work and it is great to share in this with the athletes, to share in Sporting's 24th European title. this is a great day for Sporting's 6.5 million fans and is the result of what the board as been doing for every sport at the club", opened Bruno de Carvalho, adding: "A lot of people have now realised that Sporting is back, not only in terms of football, but back to its natural state: being one of the best in Europe. This trophy is proof that Sporting is back."

Sporting CP's ladies win ECC Track and Field title

Alvalade ladies win Euro title for the first time in there history

For the first time in the department's history, Sporting's female athletics team claimed the European Champions Club Track and Field title, thanks to some inspired performanced in Mersin.

Building on a total of seven out of eleven wins on Saturday, Vânia Silva opened Sunday's action with a 4th place finish in the the hammer throw. Sviatlana Kudzelich was next up, finishing 2nd in the 1500m, before Anabela Neto finished 5th in the high jump. Lorene Bazolo followed with a 2nd place in the 200m, before Jessica Inchude finished 4th in the shot putt.

After Jessica Augusto put in a stunning showing to win the 5000m, Alvalade's ladies pulled off an emphatic victory in the 4x400m relay to claim the prestigious title.

Patrícia Mamona wins triple jump in Mersin

Alvalade athlete dominates ECC triple jump competition

Patrícia Mamona pulled off a largely expected win in the ECC Track and Field Senior triple jump competition this Saturday, finishing a good margin ahead of the rest of the pack.

After a day of action and with 11 events competed, Sporting leads the rankings with 79 points.

Sporting athlete secures Euro triple jump spot

Patrícia Mamona is in absolutely brilliant form this season. This time the Alvalade triple jumper finished 3rd in the Diamond League Rabat Meeting, clearing a distance of 14.13 on her 3rd jump to also secure a a place in the coming European Championships in Amsterdam.

Sara Moreira wins gold in Rio de Janeiro

Alvalade athlete in brilliant form ahead of Rio 2016

Sara Moreira brought her Ibero-American Championships in Athletics to a close with a brilliant gold medial this week, in the 2016 Olympic Games host city, Rio de Janeiro.

the Sporting athlete topped the podium in the 5,000m event, after finishing more than 46 seconds ahead of the second placed Florencia Borelli.

Sara's final time was clocked at 15m40s33.

David Lima sets new 100m personal best

Alvalade sprinter on form in Florida to qualify for European Championships

David Lima continues in fine form, this time setting a new 100m personal best with a time of 10.29, after having already broken his 200m record.

In action in the NTC Puré Athletics Spring competition in Clermont, Florida, Lima carved 9 hundreths of a second off his previous best. The time was enough to for Lima to reach the B minimums for the European Championships 100m event.

Sporting athlete breaks 2:29.00 barrier to secure another top-10 finish

Jéssica Augusto claimed an admirable 10th place finish in the London Marathon this weekend, on top of her 8th place in 2011 (2:24.33) and 2012 (2:24.59) and sixth in 2014 (2:24.25, personal best.

More than 40,000 runners took part in the event, for what was Jéssica's first marathon showing since her bronze medal win in Zurich in June 2015.

Jéssica finished in a time of 2:22.58, in a race won by the Ethiopian athlete Tigist Tufa (2:23.03).

David Lima sets new 200m personal best

Alvalade sprinter finishes in 20.68 to secure sport in Amsterdam

David Lima made the best possible start to the outdoor season with a new 200m personal best this weekend, running in Florida's James G. Pressly Stadium as part of the Tom Jones Memorial event.

Lima's time of 20.68s also secured a place in the coming European Athletics Championships, to be hosted in Amsterdam.

Hermano Ferreira in 10th in Vienna Marathon

Alvalade athlete best European athlete in action in Austria

Hermano Ferreira finished the Vienna Marathon in a time of 2:15.48, securing 10th place with Europe's best performance.

The Kenyan Robert Chemosin claimed the gold with a time of 2:09.48, followed by fellow countrymen Charles Cheruiyot (2:10.09) and Suleiman Simotwo ( 2:10.15). 

João Vieira claims 11th in Rio Maior International GP

Vitória Oliveira finishes 15th, while Vera Santos is forced out an Paulo Martins claims 6th in junior event

João Vieira finished the Rio Maior International GP Race Walk in an admirable 11th place this weekend, to finish as the top placed Portuguese athlete. Vieira, who has already booked his place in Rio 2016, finished in a time of 1:24.25.

In the female event, Vera Santos was unable to win the race won by the Chinese athlete Shenjie Qieyang (1:27.52).
